3D Modeling & Animation for Medical VR
Fourthedesign collaborated on the development of a VR medical application featuring a range of Roche laboratory systems.
Our role was to create accurate, optimized 3D models and animations of Roche diagnostic equipment, using photographic reference material provided by Roche as the primary source.
From Photography to Detailed 3D Models
As CAD or production-ready 3D assets were not part of the supplied material, our team reconstructed the equipment in 3D based on extensive photographic references.
The project included the following Roche systems:
- cobas c 303
- cobas c 503
- cobas ISE
- cobas e 402
- cobas e 801
- cobas pro / Hitachi system
Special attention was given to proportions, individual components, materials, surface details and the overall visual accuracy of each device.
3D Animation
In addition to 3D modeling, the equipment was prepared for animation, allowing specific parts, mechanisms and operational elements to be presented dynamically within the virtual environment.
The animations were designed to help communicate the structure and operation of complex laboratory equipment in a clear and visually understandable way.
Optimized for Virtual Reality
The final models were optimized for real-time use inside a medical VR application.
This required maintaining a careful balance between visual detail and performance, ensuring that the equipment remained realistic while being suitable for interactive VR environments.
The resulting assets enabled users to experience Roche laboratory systems in an immersive digital environment, where complex medical equipment could be presented and explored beyond the limitations of traditional images or video.
