Our team captured drone footage of all four churches and used the image material to create individual 3D scenes of the historic buildings and their surroundings.

Drone-Based Reality Capture

Drone imagery recorded the churches from multiple aerial viewpoints, capturing their architecture, roofs, outdoor areas and settings. This image-based source material was used to build four separate photorealistic Gaussian Splatting scenes.

3D Gaussian Splatting and Unity Integration

Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) represents a captured environment with a collection of spatially positioned visual elements, enabling realistic views of real places. Fourthedesign integrated the resulting scenes into a Unity-based interactive VR application, combining image-based reconstruction with immersive exploration.

Cultural Heritage in Virtual Reality

The project demonstrates how drone capture, Gaussian Splatting and Unity VR development can work together to present historic architecture in an engaging digital environment. The scenes are visual reconstructions rather than certified survey geometry or BIM models.

Project Media

The initial portfolio draft includes two actual project images: one showing camera positions and a point-cloud/reconstruction workflow, and one showing a photorealistic church scene.
